Well Insulated

Came home today around 7. It's around, oh, 68 outside. Inside my house? 83.

Living room poolOpen windows do me no good when there's no breeze.

I does dawn on me, however, that since I'm not renting I could put a pool in my living room without any disclosure...

Nevermind, I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Living room pool! Clothing optional! Any takers?

My Favorite 5 Days of the Year

Property taxes due today.

Income tax due in 5.

This searchable database over at the Chronicle really irritated me. Over 8,000 SF city & county employees are paid over $100k a year. A lot of that is overtime. A "special nurse" for the DPH was paid $117k base and $216k in overtime in 2007 netting $350,324. Cops, firefighters, DAs and bureaucrats fill out the ranks of the extremely overpaid. Why is this city insisting on making a Republican out of me? I mean, there is a fiscal shortfall and all. My uber-coiffed mayor wants a crackdown, but I just doubt it's gonna happen. Once you can afford the ultimate feast at Red Lobster every night, there's no going back without a fight.

Don't even get me started on that Olympic Torch nonsense yesterday...

Attn: 801 Corbett Arsonists

Look, I realize the building's ugly, and I'd love nothing more than for it to be razed to the ground, but I do live one door down and I could do without the frequent scares. First there was 5 months ago where an apartment burnt out of the building, 2 days later there was a flare-up, and then again tonight? Sheesh. The frequent false alarms probably don't help either.

Most of the fireworks seemed to be over by the time I got home, anyone got the skinny on what exactly burned? I'm guessing something considering the wet street.

Tired but True: MUNI

I'll summarize up top: is there anyway to find out 'incident' stats on MUNI? Accidents, claims, etc?

Background: I live on Corbett, lower side of Twin Peaks, right above Market. It's a twisty street serviced by the 37. And MUNI tried to kill me.

A few months ago, I had just turned off Portola on Corbett coming down to my house, and the 37 came tearing around a blind corner, doing at least 40, and occupying 1/3 of MY side of the road. I slammed on the brakes and banked right as much as possible. Parked cars made it impossible to seek complete shelter. The 37 took my driver's side mirror off, leaving it dangling like an eviscerated organ, and coming within about 4 inches of killing me. Plowing into a 3500 lb car with 20+ tons of piss-soaked bus would of most certainly been my death.

Did the 37 stop? Of course not. I doubt they even felt it. When I called, did they even care? "Was there witnesses? How do we know it just didn't happen on the street?" (Never mind I haven't parked on the street since 2002 in San Francisco, and never in this car.) The replacement mirror cost under $300 -- I suppose a small price for having not died, but what really pisses me off is that I still see this, day in and day out. Reckless high-speed driving, paying no attention to those pesky lanes. From both outside and inside the bus. At least twice a week, I make some sort of comment to myself about how "the 37 almost just killed me."

So, anyone know where I can get stats on just how dangerous that bus is?

Palo Alto? Really? For Shame.

Local Sex Acts By The Numbers

Palo Alto was the most surprisingly sexed-up burb in the whole mix. It turns out that 1 in 5,000 in Palo Alto are seeking anal. compared to San Francisco, where 1 in 4,000 are looking for backdoor action, Palo Alto may seem paltry for the anal enthusiast and lube salesman alike (in both cases, 27 percent are M4M). But considering that in most Bay Area cities in my survey only 1 in 10,000 are seeking anal, Palo Alto is actually seeking twice as much anal action as the rest of the Bay Area.

"Suspicious Activity"

NBC 11 (with a slideshow!)

Smith would not comment on neighbors' claims drugs had been sold at the apartment. He said he was aware that police investigators had gone into the building without firefighters.
Neighbors who did not wish to be named said they had seen ongoing suspicious activity around the apartment where the fire broke out, with people frequently "coming in and out" at odd hours.
"Everybody knows" about the suspicious activity, one neighbor said.

I didn't.

I suppose I should pay attention more. I have a clear shot of the unit's front door from my living room windows.

Toasty

I frequently joke about the eyesore of an apartment building behind me burning down. (801 Corbett? Yeah, that sounds right.)

This morning it tried to do exactly that:

The front door of the unit involved is probably 25 feet from my living room window. I was sleeping on the couch, awoke to the fire alarm going off, which happens all the time -- but then all the screaming started.

More Kenneth Eng

Remember kids -- laugh at him, not with him.

From this interview:

Describe one recurring dream you have?
Escaping this prison of a planet and physically entering the 0th Dimension as an anthropomorphic shark.

If you could have any five people over for dinner, who would they be?
Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Stephen Hawking, Charles Darwin, and my future self.

What would surprise most people to learn about you?

That even though I am by definition a genius...

His self-penned biography over at Amazon reminds us he "fought through hell to get where he was." I'm sure he do.

More over at Table of Malcontents, which unfortunately reminds us he "masturbates all the time."

Worried that she'd spurned a truly great talent, Hilary looked into Eng's novel, Dragon: Lexicon Triumvirate, and discovered that she had truly missed out. Check out these choice bits she gathered from the book:

"Time is not a concept. It is a word."

This is how the novel begins. Wow. Mindblowing stuff -- and this book stars dragons!

The dialogue is also top-notch. Here is one fine example:

"Interesting," muttered Dennagon to himself. "The force of gravity is 9.8 meters per second squared on this planet, but not in space. I wonder if 'space' actually exists."

And there's ACTION!

"Dennagon nonchalantly dropped down from his perched position to the ground. Without even taking his eyes off his book, he casually thrust his fist out, punching a hole straight through the head of one of his enemies as it charged. The decapitated body still handing from his forearm, he merely shifted his fist to the side so that the others could run into it. Expectedly, they did, blasting apart their own skulls against his scaly knuckles."

Why I Hate Blacks: Full Article and Text

I had trouble finding this, but here's that lovely Why I Hate Blacks article that first appeared in AsianWeek this past Friday.

While it's obvious that Kenneth Eng is a racist fucktard, the mere fact that it seemingly went past editorial, got on the front page and the editor still has his head makes me think: cheap publicity stunt. Here we have some solid evidence against that asians-are-super-smart meme often thrown around. (Which isn't racist, of course, cuz it's good stereotype. *sigh*)

Anyway, enjoy. It's a winner.

WHY I HATE BLACKS

Kenneth Eng, Feb 23, 2007

Here is a list of reasons why we should discriminate against blacks, starting from the most obvious down to the least obvious:
  • Blacks hate us. Every Asian who has ever come across them knows that they take almost every opportunity to hurl racist remarks at us.

In my experience, I would say about 90 percent of blacks I have met, regardless of age or environment, poke fun at the very sight of an Asian. Furthermore, their activity in the media proves their hatred: Rush Hour, Exit Wounds, Hot 97, etc.

  • Contrary to media depictions, I would argue that blacks are weak-willed. They are the only race that has been enslaved for 300 years. It’s unbelievable that it took them that long to fight back.

On the other hand, we slaughtered the Russians in the Japanese-Russo War.

  • Blacks are easy to coerce. This is proven by the fact that so many of them, including Reverend Al Sharpton, tend to be Christians.

Yet, at the same time, they spend much of their time whining about how much they hate "the whites that oppressed them."

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Christianity the religion that the whites forced upon them?

  • Blacks don’t get it. I know it’s a blunt and crass comment, but it’s true. When I was in high school, I recall a class debate in which one half of the class was chosen to defend black slavery and the other half was chosen to defend liberation.

Disturbingly, blacks on the prior side viciously defended slavery as well as Christianity. They say if you don’t study history, you’re condemned to repeat it.

In high school, I only remember one black student ever attending any of my honors and AP courses. And that student was caught cheating.

It is rather troubling that they are treated as heroes, but then again, whites will do anything to defend them.

Supposedly this is Kenneth Eng's Amazon profile. Juvenile and angry... suppose it could be.

Tune in tomorrow... we'll explore why Asians can't drive.

Happy Property Tax Day!

About a month ago, I hit my 1 year anniversary as a home owner. Yay me..

Today's the city's holiday F-U: property taxes due. I realize bitching about this is about as interesting as watching your grandma have sex, but for all that money, why can't the city at least fix fucking MUNI and wash the human filth off the streets once a month or so? Is that asking so much?

This house'll make a Republican out of me yet!

Zoo... Not

We tried to go to the Zoo yesterday, not realizing it was "free" day for locals. Upon driving by and discovering the greatest concentration of humans in SF standing immediately outside the gate, we decided to go to the Park and thought $5 for the Conservatory of Flowers was well worth it:

Nutty 45° View of da Homestead

While jacking around with Zillow today I natch had to look up my own neck of the woods.

This is just creepy:

So apparently my living room casts a distinct shadow on the building next door, and it looks like there might be some slight roof damage over the dining room -- the roof is "dark" right there, as if it collects water.

Also, that apartment building behind me looks much further away than it actually is. I'd really like nothing more than to raze that hideous eyesore to the ground, but it ain't gonna happen. (It partially obstructs my view, but only of Market St.)

Oh, and to my many enemies: Should you acquire some sort of GPS-guided weapon, I've highlighted where I'm currently sitting. Best of luck!

Je$u$ for Sale

$55 advance, $199 walk-up:

More than 25,000 evangelical Christian youth landed Friday in San Francisco for a two-day rally at AT&T Park against "the virtue terrorism" of popular culture, and they were greeted by an official city condemnation and a clutch of protesters who said their event amounted to a "fascist mega-pep rally."

The 1 Degree of Hugo Chavez

Okay, so terrible name for this post, but ran into Cindy Sheehan walking around downtown SF a few hours ago. While standing about 2 feet from her I thought "that looks an awful lot like Cindy Sheehan." I mentioned it to my friend, and by this point, the woman had crossed in the opposite direction. My friend shouted "Cindy!", she turned, waved, and yelled "Hi!" Guess she feels safe to walk the streets with impunity in evil ol' San Francisco.

Meanwhile, this Wells Fargo ATM on Market comes complete with keyboard jacked into the card slot! The future is here!

It kinda snowed here today, well, more precisely, it was probably a soft hail that accumulated. About an inch, actually. I tried to take a picture outside my house, but couldn't figure out the whole night-shot goodness on my camera.

Wild West

Outside the Safeway I usually go to, almost daily, since it's close:

Chron has the story, plus video.

The camera had a bird's-eye view of the broad-daylight shooting of 26- year-old Chris Johnson, the city's 36th homicide of the year. Grainy video shows two men in T-shirts running up to the driver's side of a Ford Contour, which was parked in front of the check-cashing store window, and firing multiple shots at Johnson before running away.

City homicides are getting a little nuts this year. Needs to stop. Newsom is showing up at some of the crime scenes (including this one), which I think is more than a PR move. Hope he's got a rabbit in that hat. I've always felt relatively safe in this city, despite its size.

I Hearby Pronounce You Doomed Media Whore

Clearly pandering to a significant voting block here in San Francisco and never one to pass up a PR opportunity, Mayor Gavin Newsom ordered city hall to start handing out marriage licenses to same-sex couples today. The timing is suspect, considering what's going on in Massachusetts right now, but if it works then I'll shutup and congratulate him.

I'm all for gay marriage, but this doesn't strike me as productive political discourse. Marriage licenses are issued by the state, not local municipalities, and these licenses are in defiance of the state law. Translation: it wouldn't hold up in court.

Someone tried to tell me the other day that he's a closet case and the marriage to his plastic wife is a sham. But then again, that's said of anyone straight in this city who isn't a troll.

The first two at the alter today were a lesbian couple, one 83 the other 79. I hope they didn't wait for their wedding day.

SFGate's got the story and pictures.

What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor?

For the next four days, San Francisco is under attack...

It's Fleet Week, the most notable event being the frequent full-throttle low-passes the Blue Angels make over the city scaring the bejesus outta everyone, setting off car alarms, and compensating for their inadequacies... [and I dare them to prove otherwise! :-)]

At any rate, enjoy! No doubt biz in North Beach will be brisk this weekend.
