USS San Francisco

Had no idea we had a nuclear submarine named after our city, that is, until it ran aground today 350 miles off the coast of Guam. Charming.

And the USS San Francisco is a "Los Angeles-class" sub. Makes a lot of fucking sense to me.

Interesting bit of trivia about subs: last bastion of all-male personal in the military, cuz of the close quarters and all, and you can not wear deodorant of any kind as it interferes with the CO2 filters. I'm sure there's a lovely bouquet once you pop the top on a recently surfaced sub. *shudder*

First, blame the Discovery channel.

Secondly, it's spelled "aerosol."

And lastly, thanks for the facts. Admittedly, I don't have easy access to someone who has served on a submarine, so it's appreciated. But what else can you tell me? Tell me what it's like...

Couple of quick informational tips schmeeve. The reson it's an LA class sub is that is the name of the first boat in that class. Women aren't on them because of several different reasons. Two main ones being we sleep in 9 man bunk rooms and there are only two heads (bathrooms) on board, i don't think many women would go for that arrangement. As far as deoderant, we do in fact use it daily just like anyone else. There are restrictions on areosol cans, because of the variable pressure on board they can rupture. But rollons, sticks etc are very much encouraged. I'm sure that if you would ask someone who serves or has served onboard a submarine they would be happy to tell you the facts. Have a nice day.
